Local Medieval Research Group

The group aims to familiarise members with the main primary source of information most available on the internet, so members can look at the history of our area from 1066 to 1350.

We explore topics of interest to the group. We have studied local Doomsday Book information and have completed a study of the mottes of the Tanat and the Cain Valley.

The group studies a local topic for research with publication of an article in a History Journal as the intended end result. Members of the Group will be introduced to the many sources of access to medieval documents. Knowledge of Latin or Norman French is not required as most of the material has been translated and is available online. Ability to use an internet search engine and email is essential.

Meeting dates

We meet as needed approximately every two months. In the interim we correspond by email. We support new members to search the internet as this is essential to access sources of information.

For reasons of insurance you must be a member of the U3A to join our Medieval History Group.
